The Uncool Rules

The Uncool Rules

Poppy's round and about,
And gets in your face,
You the oh so cool,
Friends of the you smell crew!
But we all know that
She's too Uncool,
for the you smell crew
To even bother with.

You the oh so mighty cool
Call us geeks and freaks
And stepping on our toes
Just because you can

But Plain Poppy prises open
The closet of the Uncool.
We hide so as not to upset
The cool customer,
Who must play the popularity game
And play to win.
The losers of the game
the Uncool, just get along
With their uncoolness
Finding ways to rate
A lack of cool.

So who is too cool
for the Uncool rules?
Not Poppy, no
Poppy knows them
off by heart because
she wrote them.

The Uncool rules:
She's never late,
She's never rude,
She’ll  not talk back,
Or even acknowledge you
Verbally. She might smile,
but you'll never notice.
She's too Uncool.

You'll never pick her in a line up.
She's always the last one standing.
She doesn't care that you miss her
Deliberately. She doesn't care that
You think that she's Uncool.

Until you cool kids single her out
For some unkind comments
And unfurl threats
In her direction.
Alone .

Poppy finds Uncool friends
To face up to the frosty smiles.
A Uncool gang of the tiny and the tall,
The freckled, the Ginger
And the bespectacled.

Poppy’s posse are too Uncool
To pose or adopt the stance
Of the cool. Too Uncool to
Sit around and smirk. Just Too
Uncool.

So busy reading,
writing and drawing. Poppy
plans an escape into the Uncool
World. A world where
the Uncool rule. Rule over rhymes,
Reels and wreck havoc, reversing the  cool rules.

More Uncool rules:
She sometimes listens,
she is silent other times
And sometimes she stares away.
Daydreaming about her Uncool
Existence. Planning an Uncool future.
And dreaming about the big bad world out there.
Poppy prepares for the worst
And sometimes hopes for the best
But Poppy is a realist
And knows most plans
Do not work out.

Poppy is proud of her strength
But it's Uncool to be bulky
Poppy's curves are pronounced
She's short  not slim
And detests the gym.
She won't play games
Because she doesn't care to win
She more interested in reading
And writing her Uncool thoughts
In her journal.

More rules for the Uncool:
Be an individual
Or nobody will notice you,
Dress completely differently
From the crowd.
Unfollow fashion.
Unfocus and go off on trajectory
Meandering all over the place.
Remember to rewrite the Uncool rules.

Poppy doesn't want to be a doll
Or dress up in silly frocks
Poppy is no princess
She does not wear a tiara
A sparkly necklace or jewelled earrings.
She likes big  bouncy boots.
But you won't see her
running and jumping around
Because you're not looking.

Because observation is the Uncool
Golden rule!
