Wanda the wave weaver

Wanda the wave weaver

Mix with water
A deep blue,
And an earthy brown,
Paint the heavens, darker
To a gunpowder hue.

Dip the pen,
into a golden ink
And bright sparks will fly,
Into the night,

Rolls of thunder follow.
Drips, then drops
Of rain fall down,
Upon the sky watchers.

The unprepared scatter,
And run towards the light,

Whilst the wave weaver
Walks across the sands;
Steps up to the shoreline
And looks up, down and around.

Wanda waits at the seas side.
Hunting the shoreline,
searching for clues.
Why does Wanda wonder where
she can hide her finds?
Wanda lines up these arcane messages,
So she can scan the sand for signs.

Signs of wonder, signs of hope,
Signs of warmth, signs of rain,
Signs to rhyme to,
And signs that sing,
sing the stories,
That she cannot bring
Herself to utter.

Softly, softly,
Wanda the wave weaver,
Plays with the sounds of the shore.
Whilst the souls of the sea
Sing songs of sadness.

Let me whisper
in your shell like
I spy the wave weaver
walking the shoreline

I wonder how Wanda works?
Weaving strands, sounds
And things found.
Weaving round,
Round and round.
Weaving high, weaving low.
Weaving wildly, weaving slow.
Weaving em up,
And Weaving down.

Speaking suddenly
the shoreline spurts out
Splash, splish,
Splish, splosh
Splutter.
And the rocks rip into rash riffs.
While Wanda works her way with words.
The s, the e, the a,
The s, the h, the e,
The l, the l, the s.
She spells sea shells.

Wanda wades the waves
And picks her way up the beach
Wandering between washed in waste
Wanda weaving in the broken bits

Bits of banana, bits of bottles,
Bits of tea cups, bits of kettles.
All these bits of the never to decompose
Bits to be stashed
In the hut on the beach

A beach hut
Full of boxes,
Full of pottery and crockery,
Full of bracelets and earrings,
Full of purses and coins,
Full of shells and seaweed!

Spread out before us on the beach
Is Her beach hut bonanza.
Rain ripples over Wanda's wares
No shopping or swapping today

What might the wave weaver do?
But reweave her wares,
Starting with the warp strands
She threads on all the bits
The bits of bottles, the bits from ships,
The bits of shoes, the bits that bob.

And wanda weaves
with the weft threads
To create a cloth,
a cloth of many colours,

A cloth to enclose the beach
The rocks and pebbles,
The sands, the seaweed, and the shells.
A cloth to protect the huts,
the houses and the headland
A cloth to keep the tide,
from washing Wanda's wilderness away.
